100 Objects 07, 08, 09: Small finds from Hednacott

These were all found while digging in the garden.

Many of us find small objects in the garden but these, found by Lesley Wilson are especially interesting. There is a small animal trap, a horse rider’s spur, a small glass bottle and a branding iron with the initials JS which Lesley suggests maybe John Sainsbury when he first started in Devon.

With a little bit of research Lesley has found out that the broken ointment pot was a remedy for rheumatism and gout, manufactured by Thomas Holloway one of the founders of Royal Holloway College, London.
